Balcony & Planter Box Waterproofing in Singapore
Balconies and planter boxes sit in constant contact with rain and damp soil, so their waterproofing works harder than anywhere else in the home. We use flexible, UV-stable membranes designed for Singapore’s climate.
Signs you need this
- Damp or staining on the living-room wall beside the balcony
- Water pooling and draining slowly after rain
- Efflorescence or salt stains along the planter base
- Tiles lifting at the balcony threshold
- Soil staying waterlogged in the planter
How we fix it properly
Outdoor waterproofing has to flex with heat and resist UV, so we specify membranes rated for exposed conditions rather than indoor products. For planters we add a protection and drainage layer plus a root barrier so soil moisture cannot sit against the structure.
We pay particular attention to the threshold between the balcony and the interior — a frequent weak point where water tracks back into the living room — and reinstate proper fall toward the drains.
Finishes can be re-tiled or left as a trafficable coating depending on your preference and budget.
Common causes we look for
- UV-degraded or cracked external membrane
- No root barrier or drainage layer in the planter
- Failed seal at the door threshold and floor traps
- Ponding from inadequate fall to the drain

My planter box keeps staining the wall inside — why?
Planters hold damp soil permanently against the structure. Without a proper membrane, root barrier and drainage layer, that moisture migrates inward. We rebuild the planter waterproofing as a full system, not just a coat of sealant.
Can you waterproof my balcony without removing the tiles?
If the tiles and falls are sound, a clear or coloured trafficable coating over the existing surface may work. If water is ponding or tiles are lifting, we recommend lifting them to correct the falls first.
